A Bit About Me

My Journey to Becoming a Dog Trainer

My path to becoming a dog trainer started with adopting my first dog, Bauer, after finishing university (2018). I always knew I wanted to rescue a dog and give it a loving home. After months of visiting shelters, I met Bauer—a scared pup from Mexico—who changed everything for me.

Caring for Bauer wasn’t easy, especially not knowing his past, but through patience, empathy, and commitment, we built a strong bond. This experience opened my eyes to the reality of dog ownership and inspired me to help more dogs.

I began volunteering with a local dog rescue and took on various roles, including transporter, foster, adoption and vetting coordinator, and event volunteer. Along the way, I saw how much support dog owners need—especially around behaviour—and that led me to where I am today: helping dogs and their people thrive together. Early pandemic, the concerns and support dog owners needed sky rocketed and I enrolled into a Dog Training certification program to continue to learn more on a professional level. In 2021 I became a certified dog trainer through Animal Behavior College.

The first three and half years as a certified dog trainer, I volunteered as the behavioural support and alumni support coordinator for a local GTA dog rescue. I worked hands on with hundreds of dogs and families. In my free time you would find me shadowing other certified professionals in the field, visiting various shelters in Southern Ontario, registering and participating in online dog behaviour conferences, hosting pack walks for fosters and adopters every weekend and learning more and more about my own dog each and every day.

Chantelle is very talented at what she does. We had a more extreme case of reactivity and truthfully Chantelle was our lifeline. She operates without judgment and has tons of care to give

TOAST

Laura + Jonathan

It has been an absolute pleasure working with Chantelle to train our rescue pup, Toast. From the first time we chatted, she got to know our needs, as well as the needs of our dog. She took great time and care to show us strategies and techniques to best support his development, whether it be walking on a leash, going to his place, or working on reactivity to small animals such as squirrels and rabbits. Not only did she provide us with in person training, she also followed up via email with additional resources, and was available to call or text if we had questions or updates after our sessions. We really appreciate her gentle approach to training, her willingness to work with our schedules, and all the extras she provides to help us become better dog parents

"As a certified positive reinforcement trainer, I specialize in fear-free, science-based techniques that set dogs and owners up for long-term success."

Whether you have a new puppy, just adopted a dog or your current dog could use a refresher, I can help you get the best with them. I know hands on how stressful dog ownership can be and I will work with you, teaching YOU to train your dog in a way that clearly communicates with them your expectations with methods that motive your dog to learn. I start by understanding the relationship you want to have with your dog and I make this the center of my programs. You will learn how to communicate with your dog in a language you BOTH understand.

To me, I strive to enforce the connection and relationship between dog and handler, all while having fun! This is done through positive-based, humane and scientifically proven training methods. Reinforcement is my primary tool to help that connection between dog and handler to communicate what we want from them, instead of using aversive methods to correct mistakes.

I DO use food, toys, verbal praise, environmental rewards and equipment (harness, leashes, and longlines) hand in hand with a training program. Backed by science, this approach in dog training uses the standards for the LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) techniques to shape desirable behaviours that we want to see from our canine companions. I encourage you to ask questions because how you interact with your dog during training has an ongoing impact on their present and future behaviours, well-being and emotional state.

Growing up I only knew about force-based training methods which involved punishing our dogs for not doing as asked or expected. The desire to learn another way pushed me to search for alternative methods as a young adult. I knew there had to be another way.

From continuing education, to living with, working with and fostering a range of dog breeds, I have the quality of experience to work with you to resolve your dog training problems.

I offer public and private classes for dogs of all ages to help curb unwanted behaviours and transform them into wanted behaviours. I work with you to set up your puppy, adolescent, adult, even senior dogs for success as they learn to navigate the world in your family
